Appearance:

Full leather binding in original boards

Condition:

Full leather seventeenth century binding showing wear on some areas where brass clasps originally located. Remnant of clasp on edge of back board. Banded spine in six compartments with surface leather worn on bottom edge. Top of spine has half inch square missing at one side and two half inch splits along top edge of spine. Some joint cracking. Incised pattern work on surface of both front and back covers. Some pages have short tears. There are worn corners and edges on early pages of Common Prayer Book. Occasional marks and stains. Contents tight.

The Bible is preceded by The Book of Common Prayer [22 unpaginated sides] and the Psalms of David [30 unpaginated sides]. The former has part of its first page missing and lacks a Title page and Calendar. Then follows The Genealogies with Title page, 34 illustrated pages, including an engraving of Adam and Eve. [Page 9/10 has a long vertical tear of 10 inches from bottom edge.] The Old Testament: Separate title page and creation engraving missing. 4 unpaginated sides then pagination begins with the First Book Of Moses. [Each separate number covers both the front and reverse side of each page]. Apocrypha begins on page 361 and ends on page 444. Then follows The New Testament [with title page as described] with two unpaginated sides and engraved map of Holy Land on reverse. New pagination begins with Gospel according to St. Matthew with similar numbering to the Old Testament ending on page 135; followed by 'The Tables [14 sides] and finally The Whole Book of Psalmes Collected into English Meeter by Thomas Sternehold, John Hopkins and Others. Imprinted for the Company of Stationers, 1624. Title page with wood engraving in page centre. Modern system of pagination, pages 1 to 110.
