With an Account of the Price a Good Big Engine will Cost, and of the Profit it will Afford. Printing and Publication of the work approved by the Royal Society on December 8th 1680 by Chr. Wren. Book describes the use of pressure cooking and experiments carried out by Denys Papin, Doctor of Physic and Fellow of the Royal Society. The nine chapters include 'Description of the engine and how to use it safely', 'Experiments for cooks' using mutton, breast of beef, rabbet, pigeons, and fish. There is a chapter for long voyages at sea and various related experiments. Other chapters include 'Experiments to make drinks', 'Experiments for dyers' and 'Experiments upon harder bodies as amber, ivory etc'. The author, Denys Papin [1647- 1712] as well as inventing the pressure cooker, designed safety valves and published work on the steam engine. Henry Maudsley of Lambeth [1771-1831] whose signature appears on the fep was the originator of modern machine tools.
