This famous dictionary gives a key to the authorship of anonymous and pseudonymous works published during the whole period of book production in the English language from the fifteenth century to 1950. The new and enlarged edition of Halkett and Laing appeared in six volumes between 1926 and 1932 and was followed in 1934 by a final volume containing an index and a second supplement. Two further supplementary volumes were issued; the first [volume VIII, published 1956] containing editions from 1900 as far as 1949, and the second [volume IX, published 1962] consisting entirely of additions and corrections to the period before 1900. [The latter two volumes have been edited by Dennis E. Rhodes and Anna E. C. Simoni].
