Published in the sixtieth year of Queen Victoria's reign, and dedicated to her, this is a wonderful book on cricket by one of the sport's great exponents. There are many many wonderful photographs of Victorian cricket 'greats'.As for the technical aspects, there are chapters on captaincy, umpiring and the structure of the sport at school, university and county level. Prince Ranjitsinhji (1872-1933) Known at the 'Black Prince of Cricketers', he studied at Cambridge University before going on to become a star batsman for Sussex and England. He succeeded as Jam Sahib of Nawanagar, India, in 1906 and as maharaja in 1918. He did much to modernise and improve conditions in his home state.
