Geoffrey Winthrop Young, (1876–1958) was an English writer, poet and an authority on mountaineering. Before 1914 he made an impressive record of new and difficult ascents in the Alps. In World War I he commanded British ambulance units in Belgium, France, and Italy and was several times decorated. Though he lost a leg, he continued mountain climbing.
