Condition:

G : in Good condition with marbled eps. Cover and spine rubbed. Outer joint of upper board of volume beginning to crack. Text block firm. Some scattered browning and offsetting. Heraldic book-plate on paste-down.

Thomas Pennant [1726-1798] was a Welsh naturalist and antiquary and was regarded as a leading zoologist in his day. Synopsis of Quadrupeds was published in 1771 and later expanded into History of Quadrupeds. The majority of the plates are engraved by P Mazell. Plate number LXXV of an Aye Aye in vol. 2 was cut by Thomas Bewick. Heraldic book-plate of Coulthart of Coulthart and Collyn 'Virtue non Verbis.'
