The authors were all leading anatomists, physiologists and pathologists of their day. Pierre Flourens pioneered the area of localisationism and discovered the anaethetic properties of chloroform. Jean Lobstein coined the term arteriosclerosis and founded a pathology museum in Strasbourg.
