Philipp Walbeck was a chaplain in the 3rd English Walbeck Regiment, one of the so-called Hessians ( German soldiers who fought alongside the English in the American Revolutionary War.) His diaries give a detailed insight to life in America in this period and cover a wide range of subjects ie, Churches, Costumes, Fishing, Farming, Indians, Religion, Schools , Slavery and Natural History.
